Second FOR FUNDAM³ENT doctoral seminar at IUL Dortmund
On August 28, 2025, the participants of FOR FUNDAM³ENT met at the Institute for Forming Technology and Lightweight Components in Dortmund for the 2nd doctoral seminar. After a welcome by the host, Prof. Yannis Korkolis, and a brief overview presentation by the spokesperson of the research unit, Prof. Thomas Lampke, Luisa Schottstedt, Katja Holzer, Elmar Galiev, and Olaf Schrage presented their doctoral topics in short pitches. Fortunately, two internationally renowned materials scientists, Prof. Glenn Daehn (Ohio State University) and Prof. Krishnaswamy Ravi-Chandar (University of Texas, Austin), were also able to participate in the doctoral seminar. Prof. Daehn spoke on “Paths to Real Innovation in Impulse Manufacturing” and Prof. Ravi-Chandar gave a presentation on “Exploration of ductile deformation and failure under shear dominant loading.” Both presentations and the numerous links to FOR research topics were then discussed lively.
The day before, FOR FUNDAM³ENT presented its latest research results at a mini-symposium at the International Conference on High Speed Forming (ICHSF), which also took place at the IUL in Dortmund this year. Many interesting questions about the six presentations demonstrated the audience's great interest in the work of the FOR.
